Name Me Lawand

'Name Me Lawand' tells the powerful story of a young, deaf Kurdish refugee who finds solace in Derby and learns to communicate via BSL at the Royal School of the Deaf.

We were privileged to meet Lawand and his family at St Augustine's. They were originally placed here in Halifax and when they told us about the school in Derby we wrote to the Home Office to ask for them to be relocated. The rest is history...

Audio Description (AD) and English Subtitles will accompany the film screening. There are only 3 showings of the film at The Picture House: Saturday 15th, Tuesday 18th, and Thursday 20th July. Make sure to mark them in your diary so you don't miss out!

At a time when the lives of refugees and asylum seekers are often dehumanised, othered and misrepresented, providing a platform for Lawand's incredible story is vital. Let's come together, share this film, and invite your friends and family to join us in showing support. His resilience and determination serve as an inspiration to us all.
