Our Welcome Café serves free, fresh and nutritious lunches, cooked by volunteer centre members. Enjoy delicious dishes from Morocco, Syria, Nigeria, Kurdistan, Lebanon and beyond.

Join us for a free lunch:

  • Just turn up at 12.30pm on Monday and Thursday. Everyone is welcome. 
  • You can eat in the centre or ask for a takeaway.
  • If you are an experienced cook and you might like to join our Welcome Café team. Talk to Arsalan.

Who else can help?

There are other organisations in Calderdale that can help with food.

  • On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays The Gathering Place offers a ‘pay what you can’ cafe from 12:30 - 1:30 pm. 
  • Halifax Community Fridge at Madni Mosque on Gibbet Street (HX1 5LE) is open from 11 am - 12.30 pm every day, and offers a hot meal in partnership with Jilani Kitchen at the same location on Thursdays, 30 minutes before sunset.
  • Halifax Opportunities Trust on Hanson Lane opposite St Augustine’s Centre sometimes provides basic food parcels for collection.
  • The Basement Recovery Project offer a Breakfast Club, including hot meals, on Wednesday mornings at 10 am -11.30 am for those who are socially excluded or homeless.
  • Every Sunday at 1 pm - 2:30 pm, at Halifax Bus Station, Halifax Homeless and Community Kitchen provides hot meals, drinks, hygiene packs, and food parcels completely free to anyone who needs. 
  • The King's Centre, in Halifax, provide free lunch to all students on Tuesdays at 12 - 2 pm, during term time.
