Mohammed, one of our Centre Members and hugely valued volunteers, lives in Halifax with his family. Here he writes about the devastating conflict in Sudan, and how you can support the Sudanese people.

The ongoing conflict in Khartoum has profoundly impacted the lives of the Sudanese people, causing immense suffering and devastation. In this current conflict, more than 400 individuals have tragically lost their lives in Khartoum, 100 in El-Geneina in West Darfur, and thousands more have been injured. The scale of the humanitarian crisis is staggering, with many forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in other cities within Sudan or neighbouring countries such as Egypt and Chad.

As a Sudanese citizen, I witness firsthand the profound consequences of this war. Families are torn apart, lives are shattered, and the future feels uncertain. Displaced individuals face tremendous hardships, struggling to access necessities like food, water, and healthcare. The physical and emotional toll on the affected population is unimaginable.

The international community must extend their support and solidarity to Sudan during this critical time. We need the world's attention and assistance to alleviate our people's suffering. I appeal to governments worldwide to pressure the parties involved and actively engage in diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.

Humanitarian organisations need to gather resources and provide assistance to those who have been impacted. Urgent necessities such as shelter, medical attention, food, and education should be given priority to those who have been displaced. The world's focus and participation are necessary to help us reconstruct our lives and bring stability back to Sudan.

I urge people, groups, and governments to bring attention to the urgent crisis in Sudan and push for a quick resolution to the conflict. If we unite and speak up, we can encourage governments to focus on Sudan's situation in the world and strive for a peaceful and long-lasting solution.

We can join together in solidarity and extend our compassion and support to the people of Sudan. By working together, we can make a positive impact and put an end to the hardships that our fellow citizens are facing. With collective efforts, we can pave the way for a brighter future for Sudan, where peace, stability, and prosperity can flourish.

Please join us in signing the petition to create a Sudanese Family Scheme visa to support and protect Sudanese individuals affected by the war. You can sign the petition here. Our petition has obtained 22,000 signatures, and our goal is to reach 100,000 to ensure it is debated in Parliament.

Together, we can make a difference by speaking up and encouraging governments to take swift action. Your support is crucial in providing relief to those who are struggling.
