'My name is not asylum seeker!' Exhibition at Halifax Central Library

About the Exhibition: Join us at Halifax Central Library for "My name is not asylum seeker!" exhibition, running from 3 May to 13 June 2024. This thought-provoking exhibition aims to shed light on the everyday lives and experiences of individuals who have sought asylum in the UK. It showcases materials developed by a group of six co-researchers with personal asylum experience, alongside staff and centre members from our Centre. Collaborating with Prof Mette Louise Berg and Dr Eve Dickson (UCL) during the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2021, the research delves into the realities faced by people seeking asylum in Halifax and Doncaster. Conducted in partnership with St Augustine’s and Doncaster Conversation Club, the exhibition challenges prevailing narratives that dehumanize people seeking sanctuary, portraying them as 'illegals' or a 'burden.' For more in-depth information about the research, please visit this link.
