5,000 Miles is one of a number of projects delivered as part of Creative Communities (Stronger Together), a project led by Square Chapel in partnership with Verd De Gris Arts and Orange Box young people’s centre.

5000 miles - In 2015, two boys left their home in the Mazarin Sharif region of Afghanistan to make a 5,000 mile journey, alone and mostly on foot to seek asylum in the UK.  Over the last 18 months, Verd De Gris Arts has been working with the boys, listening to them, writing with them, singing with them, to try to understand why two 13 year old boys would make such a perilous journey, crossing 9 countries to seek safety.  Their story is remarkable.  Now they want to share it with you!

Verd de Gris has been working with the boys to share their story with school children in Calderdale, to tell a real story of what it is like to leave your homeland, your friends and your family.  To share what that feels like.  The boys’ story has now been made into a beautiful book, with illustrations provided by the winner of a student design competition delivered in partnership with Calderdale College.

Join them for a very special celebration book launch event.
