Today we acknowledge and celebrate our provision of our ESOL programme!

Our ESOL programme is well established and offers a wide range of support and tuition.

Classes run morning and afternoon, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with an advanced English Class on a Friday morning. We concentrate mostly upon teaching a basic, survival level of English to people from all over the world, where the only ‘common language’ amongst students will be English.

Some of our students have had no schooling before arriving in Halifax, on the other hand, some people are graduates and were professional people in their own country.

We have two absolute beginners level, women only classes, where mothers can attend with their babies and toddlers. Alternatively, we have some individual tuition of people needing to pass the IELTS academic exam to access professional employment or training in the UK. We have pure conversation classes as well as classes teaching literacy. Language café continues to be a fun, social, learning point in the week.

The principle aims of our programme are to help people cope with life in the UK for which a knowledge of English is essential, to get students to a level that they can access courses at Calderdale College and to provide a positive social environment where people can productively use the time on their hands.

This programme could not function without the hard work and dedication of our ESOL volunteers, we now have a team of over 30 teachers and teaching assistants, who support students to make a fresh start in the UK by learning a new language.
