A huge thank you is due to Opera North for the tickets to see The Rite of Spring and Puccini's Gianni Schicchi at the end of February. The tickets were made available through the Opera North Encore scheme, designed to encourage appreciation of and participation in the arts by members of society less familiar with opera.
We took six asylum seekers and were given central seats in the Upper Balcony with great views of the stage. All of our group enjoyed the performance. A couple of people had not been in a traditional Victorian theatre before and were gazing around enchanted even before the performance began, just soaking up the atmosphere.
It was a brilliant programme to introduce people to the range of classical musical theatre, with both ballet and opera. We look forward to the next offer of tickets!
