Refugee Council (Leeds)

The Refugee Council is an independent organisation with many years of experience working with asylum seekers and refugees. They provide a wide range of services free of charge, in many different languages.

The Refugee Council One Stop Service in Yorkshire and Humberside can assist with issues relating to:

  • Subsistence and accomodation, and explaining the government system.
  • What happens if you are housed elsewhere in the UK [dispersal]
  • Help offered by other services
  • Your rights and entitlements

If you are supported by the UK Border Agency [UKBA] they can also:

  • Help with problems that may arise from the UKBA system
  • Inform UKBA of any chances in your situation.
  • Help with appeals if the government rejects your application for support.

Opening hours are:

Monday: 9am-4pm, Tuesday: 9am-4pm, Thursday:9am-4pm, Friday: 9am-4pm. Closed on Wednesdays (except for emergancies).

Appointments are available on Wednesdays for Children (run by Children's Panel) and those with difficulties accessing legal representation (run by students from York Law College)

Please note that The Refugee Council can only see a limited number of clients each day. Therefore, they may have to close the doors earlier than the time stated and ask you to come back at a different time.
